Deer Activity In Spring
Posted on February 21 2020
It's the moment gardeners have been waiting for all winter - spring is just around the corner; and this is prime time for planting...and eating by deer. Deer have been waiting for months to eat more than twigs and leaves; and now, they can finally get first dibs on plants from organic gardens.
In the spring, whitetails will appear on lawns and gardens in the early morning and late evening hours to discover gardens. They want to take their time on landscapes and go unseen by homeowners. They will succeed - that is if home growers do not implement deer management plans. Here is what is needed by homeowners to keep deer at bay:
- Deer fence installation: 7.5-8' feet high for best results;
- Growing plants for deer resistance: marigolds, daffodils and an array of herbs;
- Sprinkling deer repellents, such as predator urine, on the yard.
Deer management is a must moving into spring for homeowners that don't want to lose all of their hard work in the coming months ahead.
