When Do Foxes Give Birth?
Posted on May 30 2019
Baby foxes, called kits, make their way into the world in late spring beginning in May. Similar to coyotes, lady foxes breed in January and typically deliver 3-5 kits at a time. Kits will stay close to their mothers until October or November when they become "teenagers" or in their minds "adults." This is when they go off to fend for themselves and their own foods - preferably mice, squirrels and the occasional domestic cat (they generally will avoid dogs).
Homeowners will need to keep their pets inside or surrounded by a metal yard fence that is at least 6 feet tall. This height will avoid jumping attempts by pack members including foxes, coyotes and wolves. Having a steel fence engulfed in PVC coating will protect the fence mesh from chew marks by these animals, as well.
