Bear Sightings and Activity

It may be late August, but bears remain on the hunt for food to stock pile grub in their bellies through fall to prepare them for winter hibernation.

Black bears may be active at any time of the day or night although they mainly forage by night. Bears living near human habitations tend to be more extensively nocturnal, and bears living near brown bears tend to be more extensively diurnal.

Honey makers should beware of bear activity. Generally, bears will not disturb bees; but they will do what they can to taste all-natural honey. For gardeners, bears want whatever they can reach in gardens.

When thinking about fencing in gardens, choose an electric fence for bear control. This is the most effective manner to rid bears. Bears will trample over plastic fences and some steel fences are simply not strong enough either. Electric fences will shock bears into stopping their destructive ways.
