Like humans, deer are not invincible to diseases. Open a newspaper, and you will read about Chronic Wasting Disease in deer and how they are the number one carriers of Lyme Disease in the United States. Unfortunately, deer diseases do not end there. Here are the common deer diseases in North America:

  • Screwworm and Other Parasites
  • Hemorrhagic Disease
  • Bovine Tuberculosis
  • Brain Abscesses
  • Screwworm and Other Parasites
  • Fibromatosis

These diseases can spread from animal to animal; but there is no evidence to suggest that eating infected deer meat can harm humans. Nevertheless, deer hunters are required to test deer for CWD and other common diseases upon capture.
