Deer Eating Habits In Spring

Jenn Smith

Posted on March 17 2020

Natural resources were scarce in winter; but now that spring is days away, white-tailed deer know that their troubles are behind them.

In the spring, plant growth is abundant; and deer will not stop eating all types of plants including flowers; vegetables and fruits. They will continue to eat grasses, as well. Does will eat well, as they will deliver fawns in March and April. They will need to eat more to produce milk for their young. Because deer birthing season is in spring, homeowners will see double trouble on properties in addition to an influx of whitetails.

Spring is prime time for deer movement in gardens; and the only way to rid deer from lawns this season is to install deer fencing and implement other effective deer management strategies.
