SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Transportation officials are building a wildlife bridge over a part of Interstate 80 where more than 100 animals have been killed over the last two years.

The Utah Department of Transportation the project will close part of eastbound I-80 overnight in Parley's Canyon Wednesday.

Mule deer, moose, elk and a cougar are among the animals found dead on the highway between Salt Lake and Park City. The $5 million project will be finished in the fall.

Eastbound Interstate 80 will re-open Thursday. The closure affects the area between the Jeremy Ranch and Lambs Canyon exits. Drivers will have to use alternate routes, though it could add up to 90 minutes to their trips.

The westbound side of the road was closed overnight on Tuesday to place steel beams for the bridge.
