Spring Brings Bear Movement
Posted on April 09 2019
A car crash in North Carolina is a gentle reminder that bears are out and about this spring. While the car was heading down a highway, a 600 pound black bear leaped in front of the moving vehicle, smashing into the car. The driver was not hurt but the bear died on the scene along with the vehicle.
Bear hibernation ended as early as February; and bears are out and about scouting for food along major roadways and even spotted in residential areas. They will attack other wild animals including white-tailed deer as well as small pets (dogs, cats).
To keep pets and gardens secure this spring, homeowners are encouraged to protect their landscapes with bear fencing which usually involves electric wire. Electric fencing is the best method for bear deterrence.
