Summer Plants To Grow

Posted on June 21 2019

Ah, the first day of summer is finally here; and gardeners have the opportunity to grow many different types of fruits and veggies in home gardens. When we think about fruits in the summertime, we think about berries and melons. When we think of vegetables in summer, we think about salad favorites.

Here is the list of plants to grow in gardens this summer:

  • Blackberries and raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Tomatoes (yes, they are fruit!)
  • Blueberries
  • Okra
  • Green beans
  • Eggplant
  • Watermelons
  • Cantaloupe
  • Cherries
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Cucumber
  • Corn
  • Pepper varieties

These classic summertime favorites can handle hot temperatures; but they will still require plenty of water. Watering plants in the summer should be done in the morning hours before the afternoon sun shines down. And, as always, protect plants from deer browsing with fencing this season. Summer is prime season for deer damage!
